Recognizing Remembrance Day and Indigenous Veterans Day

Indigenous Veterans Day is observed on November 8th and Remembrance Day is observed on November 11th.

As we approach Remembrance Day, we reflect on the sacrifices made by many brave individuals who fought in wars past and honour those that continue to serve today across Canada and the globe.

In addition to Remembrance Day, we also observe Indigenous Veterans Day on November 8th. Many First Nations, Inuit and Métis individuals have a long and proud history of military service in Canada, with estimates suggesting that as many as 12,000 Indigenous people served in the great conflicts of the 20th century.

It is crucial to acknowledge and celebrate their contributions, as well as to recognize the unique challenges they have faced in both military and civilian life. You can learn more about this important history through resources available on the Government of Canada’s website.

We encourage everyone to take a moment of silence on November 11th to honour fallen heroes and express gratitude for their sacrifices. Additionally, let us reflect on how we can actively support positive change and work towards dismantling the barriers faced by underrepresented groups, including Indigenous Veterans.

With the solemn reality of ongoing global conflicts, we are reminded of the importance of working towards a world where peace ultimately prevails. As we remember the past and acknowledge the present, let us embody the spirit of remembrance by working towards a more peaceful and harmonious world.

To all those who serve or have served, we thank you.

Lest we forget.
