We’re excited to announce that York Region's Information Fair has gone virtual!

CTN’s local team facilitators collaborated with public and private community agencies and vendors to bring information and resources to you around these five areas of interest:

Throughout this summer, we will be sharing a series of video interviews about how these organizations are implementing the F-Words for Child Development (fun, fitness, friends, family, function and future) into their programs and services as they work with children and youth with disabilities and developmental needs virtually.

Planning for the future is an important part of every child’s life and often a concern for parents and caregivers. The key to peace of mind is speaking to professionals about starting early to create goals and plans for adult life. A person-centred plan supports the participation of individuals with disabilities and developmental needs in all areas of daily living and the opportunity to continue to grow and develop across all of the F-words for Child Development- Fun, Family, Friends, Fitness, Function and Future!

What is Future Planning?
Future Planning a process for creating a person-centred plan for someone with disabilities and development needs that will enable them to lead a full life with as much independence as indicated by the goals of the individual or family. A plan is important throughout all life stages, especially after the parent or caregiver can no longer provide support.

A person-centred plan should reflect the wishes of individuals with disabilities and developmental needs with input and assistance from parents, siblings, extended family, friends and other people important to that person. The plan should include information about all aspects of the individual’s life including:
  • Function: Daily routines, living arrangement, supports, education, medical and financial needs
  • Fitness: leisure activities, sports
  • Friends: access to social activities, maintain and cultivate friendships
  • Family: Important relationships to nurture, caregiving roles and support
  • Fun: volunteering, leisure, cultural activities, interests
  • Future: employment, job training, legal needs, financial needs
