CTN’s York Region Virtual Information Fair- #WhatWeWantYoutoKnow about Funding and Equipment

We’re excited to announce that York Region's Information Fair has gone virtual!

CTN’s local team facilitators collaborated with public and private community agencies and vendors to bring information and resources to you around these five areas of interest:

Throughout this summer, we will be sharing a series of video interviews about how these organizations are implementing the F-Words for Child Development (fun, fitness, friends, family, function and future) into their programs and services as they work with children and youth with disabilities and developmental needs virtually.

According to the F-Words for Child Development, function refers to the ability to do an activity with or without support. Allowing children and youth access to equipment and funding gives them the tools to gain independence, self-confidence and the opportunity to leverage their abilities to reach their full potential and live their lives to the fullest. A positive impact in this area can lead to growth in the other areas of the F-Words for Child Development.

Having access to essential mobility and recreational or leisure equipment like wheelchairs, walkers, ramps, lifts or adapted sports equipment will allow children and youth to participate fully at home, school and in their community.

Check out the following organizations and see how they can help support how your child play and function in their daily life.

HME- HME, also known as Home Medical Equipment, is dedicated to enhancing the quality of the lives of individuals through mobility, accessibility, security and comfort with access to and experience in all manner of equipment.

Motion- Motion is a leader in mobility and accessibility solutions since 1985. With kindness and expertise, they support individuals living the experience as well as their support system by delivering the right solutions. Motion works collaboratively to understand client needs so they can lead their most vibrant lives.

Easter Seals- Easter Seals Ontario’s programs and services focus on serving children and youth up to the age of 19 who have a physical disability affecting their mobility across Ontario. They provide funding for essential mobility and accessibility equipment, host a fully accessible summer camp, share special education resources, provide post-secondary scholarships, allow access to additional information resources and advocate for public awareness of disability issues.

Families can borrow our equipment for two weeks through CTN’s Recreation Loan Program. Speak to your child’s team about this program. They may have some suggestions about which recreation or mobility equipment would support your child’s goals. Alternatively, you can contact Bethany Brewin, LTF (Simcoe County) at bbrewin@ctnsy.ca or Christian Marquez, Rehabilitation Assistant (York Region) at cmarquez@ctnsy.ca for assistance.
