Better Together: Let’s Talk about Mental Health

At CTN, people are at the centre of what we do – kids, youth, caregivers, volunteers and our network partners. That’s why we are proud to support Bell Let’s Talk Day to help end the stigma around mental illness and encourage conversations about mental health and wellness throughout the year.

Approximately 20% of young Canadians, including some of the kids and youth we serve, are affected by a mental illness or disorder. These issues can affect their learning, social interactions and lifelong health. This year’s campaign “Let’s Change This” highlights ways we can all live the CTN core values of inclusion and responsibility by creating meaningful change and taking action in our daily lives by doing one or more of the following:

  • Choose a mental health organization to learn about or support
  • Help a friend struggling with their mental health by learning how to support them
  • Ask about how your school, workplace or community is creating change for mental health
  • Nurture your own well-being by practicing and learning mental health strategies
  • Get involved in a mental health initiative or organize an event to support mental health
  • Engage in conversations about mental health to fight stigma

This month, CTN is taking action to support our vision of creating a vibrant community where all kids, youth and families belong. Our Community and Family Coordinators (CFCs) are hosting a lunchtime family workshop and we have also expanded our mental health resources on the CTN Online Resource Centre at www.ctnsy.ca to share more information and ways to access support in Simcoe County and York Region. Check out our newly updated mental health resource page and please share with those in need of support or information.

CTN is also proud to participate and support this initiative through our social media channels. Please follow CTN’s Facebook, Instagram and Twitter handles and the hashtag #BellLetsTalk for more information about mental health and wellness.

At CTN, our mission is together with our partners, we work with kids, youth and their families to support development and well-being. Our Online Resource Centre is just one of the ways in which we bring this mission, as well as our vision, values and strategic directions to life. You can learn more about our strategic plan here.
