Lunar New Year, also known as Chinese New Year, begins on January 29th, marking the first new moon of the lunar calendar. This exciting time kicks off festivities that last up to 16 days, filled with vibrant celebrations, meaningful traditions and moments of togetherness. Red is the colour of the season which symbolizes good fortune and joy. From wearing red clothing and decorating homes with red banners, to gifting money in red envelopes and lighting red firecrackers – every detail invites happiness and prosperity for the year ahead. The celebrations culminate on February 12th with the Lantern Festival, a joyful time of reunion, socializing and freedom. It’s a beautiful reminder of the importance of family and community. In Chinese culture, the Zodiac plays an important role with a 12-year cycle represented by animals. This year celebrates the Year of the Wood Snake, a symbol of wisdom, grace and prosperity.
To all who celebrate, CTN wishes you a prosperous and joyful Lunar New Year! May the Year of the Snake bring you growth, strength and success in all your endeavors.
