CTN families can now borrow our Hippocampe chair with beach wheels for the summer or a ski kit for winter.

Tatum and her family love to spend time together outside exploring nearby hiking trails. In the hot summer months, Tatum loves to head to the beach with her parents and her sisters and go right into the water from the sand! Her family has been using the Hippocampe All Terrain Chair to access trails during the spring but the Hippocampe is also designed to go in the water, allowing Tatum to safely explore alongside her family.

We love our Hippocampe All Terrain Chair because it allows us to have fun and go pretty much anywhere together!  We are not limited by water, sand or rocks.  We can more easily get out as a family to enjoy nature. The chair is comfortable and folds up easily to pack in the car as well. Getting around on wheels is not always easy, but this chair makes it possible to go places that were once impossible to go.Kim, Tatum’s mom.

Families can borrow the Hippocampe All Terrain Chair with optional beach wheels or ski kit for up to two weeks through CTN’s Recreational Loan Program. Please speak to your child’s team to see if this would be a good fit for your child. If you have further questions, or do not have a CTN therapist, you can contact equipment@ctnsy.ca for more information.
 

Before you borrow our Hippocampe All Terrain Chair, here’s what you need to know about contactless pick up and drop off:

1. Once a request for equipment has been received, CTN will notify the family or therapist regarding availability via email.
2. A liability form will be sent to the therapist/family for completion and acknowledgement of the liability agreement.
3. CTN will arrange pick up and drop off time with families at a specific location outside the site to ensure there’s no contact with others accessing the building.
4. CTN will follow equipment cleaning procedures prior to pick up and after drop off.    
5. Large equipment can only be loaned to families who do not require physical adaptations to the gear or where therapists are comfortable advising families on the fitting via virtual methods. We cannot complete in-person adjustments at this time.
6. Families must be able to load and transport the equipment independently.

CTN supports children, youth and families by focusing on CanChild's framework of the F-words for Child Development. Every child with varying abilities has the right to have fun, enjoy friends, function as they are, access fitness, plan for their future and join in family activities like hiking and playing at the beach!
