CTN’s York Region Virtual Information Fair- #WhatWeWantYoutoKnow: About Intervention and Supports

We’re excited to announce that York Region's Information Fair has gone virtual!

CTN’s local team facilitators collaborated with public and private community agencies and vendors to bring information and resources to you around these five areas of interest:

Throughout this summer, we will be sharing a series of video interviews about how these organizations are implementing the F-Words for Child Development (fun, fitness, friends, family, function and future) into their programs and services as they work with children and youth with disabilities and developmental needs virtually.

Intervention and skill building supports strive to optimize functional outcomes for children with disabilities and developmental needs by providing the right intervention, in the right amount, at the right time and in the right location. As all children develop at their own pace, they may require different supports at different times in their lives. For some, this may be therapy, some it may be social skill programs, others it may be talk therapy for anxiety. By using the F Words, families can develop goals for their child that will help to determine the appropriate intervention for skill development. Here are some examples:

Function: Programs that develop emotional regulation and fine and gross motor skills so kids can thrive in the community.
Fitness: Sports, recreation and camps help kids have fun while developing important motor and skills to build independence and confidence.
Friends: Social skill building through peer interactions e.g., play groups, recreation, camp, free play at the park, etc.
Family: Parent education workshops provide insight into their child’s strengths and needs
Fun: Play-based skill building activities and social skill programs and groups to make friends while having fun
Future: A combination of programs, therapy and supports that lead to a child or youth living their life to the fullest.
