We’re excited to announce that York Region's Information Fair has gone virtual!

CTN’s local team facilitators collaborated with public and private community agencies and vendors to bring information and resources to you around these five areas of interest:

Throughout this summer, we will be sharing a series of video interviews about how these organizations are implementing the F-Words for Child Development (fun, fitness, friends, family, function and future) into their programs and services as they work with children and youth with disabilities and developmental needs virtually.

What is Family Centred Service?

CanChild’s definition of Family-Centred Service (FCS) refers to “services made up of a set of values, attitudes, and approaches to services for children with special needs and their families. FCS recognizes that each family is unique; that the family is the constant in the child's life; and that they are the experts on the child's abilities and needs. The family works with service providers to make informed decisions about the services and supports the child and family receive. In family-centred service, the strengths and needs of all family members are considered.” This approach allows organizations, agencies and service providers to work collaboratively with families to implement strategies that will make the family’s life easier, address challenges and create the best outcome for their children’s health, development and wellbeing. The F-Words for Child Development help to identify the strengths and goals of both the client and family. To create your own family profile, click here.

We’ve interviewed community agencies and organizations that work specifically with families. As service providers, they always keep the family’s needs at the centre of their work. Check out the videos below to learn how your family could benefit from these services in the community:
