Recognizing Health Awareness Dates in May

Read about how the dates connect to our work and access resources

This May, CTN recognizes several health awareness dates that are reflective of the families and communities we serve. We also take time to acknowledge and celebrate the dedicated professionals who help make our work possible. These observances are an opportunity to show appreciation for our CTN team and valued partners, including physiotherapists, speech-language pathologists, nurses and other clinicians who support families every day.

Learn more about each observance below and follow the links to explore resources and information. Thank you to all the clinicians for your dedication and hard work to help make a difference in the lives of the kids, youth and families.

Health Awareness Dates in May

  • National Physiotherapy Month – This month, we celebrate how physiotherapy helps kids and youth move, build strength and confidence and feel their best. Physiotherapists play a vital role in supporting mobility, balance and overall well-being, helping kids and youth thrive at home, at school and in their communities. Learn more about Physiotherapy Services at CTN and thank a physiotherapist this month for all their incredible work.

  • Pediatric Feeding Disorder Month – This month raises awareness of the challenges experienced by kids with feeding difficulties and their families. In collaboration with our partners, we support families through expert assessments, practical strategies and trusted resources. This work helps make mealtimes safer, easier and more enjoyable for families. Learn more about CTN's Feeding Assessment and Consultation Services or access general feeding tips by watching our caregiver education videos through our Online Resource Centre.

  • Speech and Hearing Awareness Month – Speech and hearing awareness highlights the importance of communication for kids and youth. Speech-language pathologists support the development of speech, language and communication skills, helping kids express themselves and connect with others. CTN partners with several diagnostic and therapy services across various programs to support kids and youth. Families can explore Speech, Language and Development resources on our Online Resource Centre.

  • Mental Health Awareness Month – This year, Mental Health Week runs from May 4th to 10th, with the Canadian Mental Health Association’s theme of Come Together, Canada, encouraging connection, compassion and support. We also recognize National Child and Youth Mental Health Day on May 7th. Looking after our own well-being is essential so we can support others. A range of Wellness and Mental Health resources are available on our Online Resource Centre for kids, youth and caregivers. Resources are available on the CMHA website to support mental health beyond the month of May.

  • National Youth Week in Canada runs annually from May 1st to May 7th and celebrates young people aged 13 to 29 and the positive contributions they make in their communities through free, youth-led events across Canada. In collaboration with our partners, CTN is running different activities in honour of National Youth Week. View the events and register our website calendar.

  • National Nursing Week (May 11th – 17th) - During National Nursing Week, CTN recognizes and thanks the nurses who play such an important role in the care of kids, youth and families. This year’s theme, The Power of Nurses to Transform Health, highlights the expertise, compassion and leadership nurses bring to every community. International Nurses Day is observed on May 12th.

CTN acknowledges that we support a diverse range of families, partners and employees. We strive to honour as many significant dates as possible and understand that this calendar may not capture all of them. We encourage everyone to explore and recognize the observances that are meaningful to them and their communities. View our 2026 Days of Significance calendar.
