February is Black History Month.

As February unfolds, CTN proudly acknowledges Black History Month (BHM), a time dedicated to recognizing the various contributions of Black individuals who have shaped our society. This annual commemoration honours the struggles, triumphs, and achievements of Black individuals and encourages the amplification of voices that have shaped our diverse communities. It serves as a reminder to acknowledge, appreciate, and learn from the historical and present-day experiences of Black communities.

This year, the theme for Black History Month is “Black Legacy and Leadership: Celebrating Canadian History and Uplifting Future Generations.” This theme, announced by the Government of Canada, encourages reflection on the leadership and contributions made by Black Canadians throughout history and celebrates the strength of individuals who have paved the way for future generations to thrive in their communities.

As we celebrate Black History Month, we recognize the power of diversity and inclusion in everything we do. As we work with our partners, we are committed to creating stronger communities for every child and youth. By upholding our organizational values, we honor the spirit of Black History Month and continue to strive toward a vibrant, inclusive community where all kids, youth, and families belong.

In celebration of Black History Month, we encourage you to explore the resources below to deepen your knowledge and appreciation of Black culture, history, leadership, and the inspiring individuals who have shaped its stories, struggles, and triumphs. We invite you to engage with the meaningful community events happening throughout the month.
