With over 70 vendors under one roof, public and private community agencies and organizations were able to connect and answer questions from 230 families who came through the doors. I was certainly impressed by the fair and the enormous number of service providers who were participating. I was pleased to see that every parent including myself, had ample opportunities to chat with service providers and inquire about the services that meet the unique needs of my child. As parents made their way around the gym, they had the chance to visit with agencies and organizations that support families with funding, camps, inclusive recreation programs, private therapy, respite, alternative educational programs and so much more. The “Coffee Chat” room hosted by the CTN local team facilitators, Single Plan of Care Coordinators and volunteer family mentors allowed parents to recharge with some coffee and ask their questions to our team of professionals and other parents who are also raising kids with special needs. Parents were grateful to have a place to review all the information they had gathered from the fair and discuss next steps with mentors who are further along in their own personal journey. Even our littlest attendees were happy to have a space to get away from the noise, do some colouring and have a cookie with mom or dad! Learned so much at this amazing event.
