On Tuesday, September 24th, Children’s Treatment Network’s (CTN) Board of Directors hosted an event honouring the 44-year career of Louise Paul, Chief Executive Officer (CEO).

Past and present colleagues and long-time friends gathered for a celebration in Maple as Louise was recognized and celebrated for her commitment, leadership and passion for building brighter futures for children and youth with special needs.

Numerous colleagues and close friends shared memorable and amusing stories of Louise at the podium – from her early introduction to the social services sector, to her extensive experience with the Ministry, followed by her long tenure at CTN. In 2008, Louise joined CTN as CEO, which at the time, was Ontario’s first and only children’s treatment centre that operated in a network model to provide much needed rehabilitation services in York Region and Simcoe County. Louise’s ability to nurture strong relationships and foster community partnerships cemented the foundation that helped shape CTN today.

In lieu of gifts, Louise requested that donations be made to the CTN Family Fund, which supports kids and families that have short term, urgent financial needs that cannot be met through existing government financial assistance programs or charitable funds. Over $2,500 in personal donations was raised in Louise’s honour.  

Families have always been the centre of our decisions each and every day at CTN. Helping to connect our families and clients to the resources and support that they need has been the cornerstone of the work we’ve all done over the past 11 years. In addition to personal donations, Closing the Gap (CTG), one of CTN’s network partners, generously donated a corporate gift of $5,000 in honour of Louise’s ongoing dedication to building brighter futures together for kids, youth and families.

Linda Kenny, CEO of KidsAbility surprised the celebrant with a scholarship in honour of Louise and three other recently retired children’s treatment centre (CTC) leaders: John LaPorta, Jenny Greensmith and Elaine Whitmore on behalf of their colleagues at Empowered Kids Ontario (EKO). Each year, EKO awards five post-secondary school scholarships to a graduate from one of Ontario’s 21 CTCs. In 2020, there will be a sixth scholarship awarded on behalf of these four retired leaders.
