On Wednesday, June 21, 2024, CTN’s Lead of Clinical Modernization, Kim Hesketh and CTN, were awarded the McMaster University School of Rehabilitation Science (SRS) Champion Award. The award honours an individual and/or organization that has made significant and consistent long-standing contributions to McMaster’s SRS in the form of research and/or education. Since 2017, CTN and the CanChild Centre for Childhood Disability Research has built an extensive partnership that has led to the co-leadership of various activities related to research, education, implementation and policy advocacy. These projects specifically relate to the F-words for Child Development, ENVISAGE (ENabling VISions And Growing Expectations) and Family Engagement in Research (FER). Kim has been recognized as the primary connector in creating and sustaining this impactful partnership. CTN was one of the first organizations to partner and implement CanChild’s F-words at an organizational level. This has led to research study partnerships, an F-words Online Training Program, presentations at conferences and other organizations and much more. Additionally, CTN and Kim have been integral partners in CanChild’s ENVISAGE-Families and ENVISAGE-Service Providers program, along with the Family Engagement in Research (FER) Team. The nomination also recognizes the impressive policy-level advocacy work, as well as teaching and student professional development that Kim and CTN have engaged in. As stated in the nomination package for this award, “CTN is a leader in the field of child health and developmental service delivery; they work to bridge gaps between research and practice, push boundaries and lead by example through partnerships with research and academic institutions like McMaster University. Their recognition and acknowledgement of contributions to the field are long overdue. We cannot think of a more deserving organization (CTN) and representative (Ms. Hesketh) for the 2024 SRS Champion Award.” Congratulations to Kim Hesketh and CTN for this outstanding achievement. Acknowledgements such as these are at the core of our strategic objectives, especially as we continue to strive for excellence.
