This Foundational Family Service workshop takes a strength-based approach to helping persons with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) understand their diagnosis. Explaining and answering questions related to a diagnosis may be a lifelong discussion and difficult to navigate. Monday, June 27th, 2022 9:30 a.m. - 12:00 p.m. Register Cost: there is no cost to participate Autism Spectrum Disorder: Beyond the Diagnosis will provide parents and caregivers with strategies and tools to support these discussions and offer a person-centered perspective about the diagnosis. This workshop incorporates the research of Dr. Peter Vermeulen, related to helping persons with ASD understand themselves and their respective diagnosis. Dr. Peter Vermeulen is an author, lecture and consultant in the field of Autism Spectrum Disorder. This workshop is intended for parents and caregivers, who have children and youth registered with the Ontario Autism Program (OAP) as a Foundational Family Service. Autism Spectrum Disorder: Beyond the Diagnosis will be delivered live via Zoom for Professionals and the following is required to participate: • Mobile Device, Tablet or Computer • An internet connection • Speakers and a microphone • A webcam Please Note: Registration does not guarantee a space in this webinar. To be eligible, confirmation of OAP registration and completion of a Kerry’s Place Autism Services’ intake meeting and consent forms will be required. Foundational Family Services are available to persons under the age of 18, and their families, registered with the Ontario Autism Program. These services assist families in supporting their child’s learning and development. This 2½-hour workshop teaches parents and caregivers strategies and tools to help their children and youth understand their diagnosis, using a strengths-based approach.
