In partnership with the City of Markham, CTN hosted the York Region Special Needs Information Fair on February 11th at the Angus Glen Community Centre.
With over 70 vendors under one roof, public and private community agencies and organizations were able to connect and answer questions from 230 families who came through the doors.
Exploring the diverse services offered for individuals with disabilities in York Region has never been easier! I was certainly impressed by the fair and the enormous number of service providers who were participating. I was pleased to see that every parent including myself, had ample opportunities to chat with service providers and inquire about the services that meet the unique needs of my child. Heba, CTN parent and Family Mentor.
As parents made their way around the gym, they had the chance to visit with agencies and organizations that support families with funding, camps, inclusive recreation programs, private therapy, respite, alternative educational programs and so much more. The “Coffee Chat” room hosted by the CTN local team facilitators, Single Plan of Care Coordinators and volunteer family mentors allowed parents to recharge with some coffee and ask their questions to our team of professionals and other parents who are also raising kids with special needs. Parents were grateful to have a place to review all the information they had gathered from the fair and discuss next steps with mentors who are further along in their own personal journey. Even our littlest attendees were happy to have a space to get away from the noise, do some colouring and have a cookie with mom or dad!
Learned so much at this amazing event. As a parent, I appreciate it so much that all the resources and information that I need are all available under one roof. Parent attendee.
Thanks for an amazing day Children's Treatment Network. We have been coming to this event for years and we love meeting new families! Information fair vendor, Hand Over Hand.
Thank you to Bob Saroya, Minister of Parliament from Markham-Unionville, for taking time to come visit the fair. Louise Paul, CTN’s CEO, showed the MP around the fair highlighting community agencies who serve families of children with special needs. We are also grateful to Markham’s Mayor, Frank Scarpitti, for sharing the fair on Twitter and stopping by for a visit with our CTN team.
I would like to congratulate CTN on a very successful Special Needs information fair. The coordination of the event was seamless and the staff and volunteers from CTN were attentive and helpful. The event was very inclusive and we felt very valued as a CTN partner. We only wish we had more time to visit all of the other providers! 1to1 Rehab, CTN network partner.
Our next Information Fair will be in Simcoe in the fall of 2018. For information on our other events , please visit our network calendar.
