Who should attend? Parents and Caregivers|Children
An excellent opportunity for children with hemiplegia to improve function, have fun, and develop friendships! Parents have an opportunity to learn about modified constraint therapy techniques and meet other families during a parent information session. This 1 week, half day summer program offers children with hemiplegia ages 5-9 or 10-13 years the opportunity to participate in a variety of fine and gross motor activities. Modified constraint induced movement therapy will be used, focusing on constraining their dominant hand while developing the motor skills of their affected hand and arm. A hand splint will be provided at a low cost, which is the child’s to keep. WHAT IS MODIFIED CONSTRAINT INDUCED MOVEMENT THERAPY (mCIMT) ? • mCIMT involves restraining the unaffected arm while engaging the affected limb in a range of everyday activities. • Each participant will receive a splint for their unaffected arm.
