Below are some important notes pertaining to these skates:
The City of Barrie's Inclusion Services is offering 2 drop-in sensory open skates for families of children with special needs at East Bayfield C.C. It is a drop-in program, but we are still requiring pre-registration for families to save their spots to ensure that the space is still sensory aware. This skate is designed to offer an opportunity for families with participants with physical or developmental disabilities that would typically be resistant to accessing our public/family drop-in skates due to the large numbers of participants and overstimulating and busy environment. The environment will be sensory aware in that the lights will be dimmed, the change rooms won’t be as busy (this helps tremendously with transitions), and the total number of participants on the ice will be capped at 20 to create a more calm, slow moving and overall quieter space to experience skating (especially for those who use mobility devices on the ice).
