Who should attend? Parents and Caregivers
Facilitator: Elizabeth Yeaman R.P., B.Sc.O.T.Reg.(Ont) Registered Psychotherapist / Registered Occupational Therapist Parenting is stressful. We don’t need a study to tell us that. But sometimes, it feels more than stressful – it feels like total exhaustion. It feels like burnout. Sleepless nights and the many arguments about eating plain pasta can contribute not only to parental burnout, but to chronic anxiety and depression in parents. Please join us for an informal group discussion about parental burnout. We will have an interactive discussion about the risks - as well as strategies to prevent and minimize parental burnout. Taking care of ourselves is perhaps the most important thing we can do for our children.

Parental Burnout and Stress “This is my life right now: My children, ages 12 and 8, won’t eat anything but plain bow-tie noodles. My 8-year-old won’t go outside because a goose chased her at the park last spring, and now she has a paralyzing fear of the outdoors. My 12-year-old still routinely climbs into my bed every night, in the middle of the night, and sandwiches himself between me and my husband, insisting on sharing my pillow and breathing into my face as he sleeps. I’m sleep-deprived. I’m strung out. Between shuffling one kid off to speech therapy multiple times per week and coaxing the other to get on the bus every morning, I frequently feel like I’m at the end of my rope”. Does this sound familiar?
